In an unusual incident at a Texas antique store, a video captured a kilt-clad shopper, later identified as 60-year-old Mitchell Vest, engaging in bizarre behavior by hiding various items in an unconventional manner.
The incident took place at the Antique Gallery in Spring, where Vest was filmed concealing items in a manner described by police as “in his rectum,” before placing them back on the store’s shelves. Susan Golden Fox, the 26-year-old owner of the gallery, expressed her shock at the footage, stating that despite witnessing many odd occurrences in her store, this was a first for her.
Reportedly, the items involved in the incident included a makeup brush, an antique bottle opener, a piece from Restoration Hardware, and a tobacco tent can. These details emerged from a probable cause affidavit mentioned by Law&Crime, highlighting the unusual nature of the theft.
Vest, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs around 250 pounds, is a known figure in the Houston suburb for his distinctive choice of wearing a kilt. He has reportedly visited several shops in the area. Another store, the Curiosity Shop, experienced a similar incident, with owner Alisha Osborne reporting to police that Vest had concealed items under his kilt, which were also returned to the shelves contaminated.
Following these incidents, both complainants were forced to dispose of the affected items due to contamination. Vest was charged with criminal mischief and was initially detained with a $100 bond, according to the Harris County Constable’s Office.
The gallery owner, Susan Golden, recalled Vest’s previous visits to the store, noting that employees had observed him spending extensive periods there. The affected merchandise was either thrown away or thoroughly cleaned following the incident.
