The wave of support A$AP Rocky has received from the U.S government could potentially hurt his case, TMZ reports.
Despite the U.S State Department, Congressional Black Caucus and Donald Trump all working to get the rapper released from a Swedish jail, the prosecutor has been firm on keeping A$AP detained. In fact, they don’t plan on showing any sympathy.
After Kim Kardashian and Kanye West asked for the president’s support earlier this week, Trump reached out to the Swedish Prime Minister on behalf of the rapper and “offered to personally vouch for his bail.”
According to sources close to the case, the U.S government’s attempt to interfere with Sweden’s court proceedings has rubbed a few people the wrong way.
While Trump said he and Prime Minister Stefan Lofven had a “good call,” Lofven made it clear that A$AP wouldn’t be receiving special treatment just because he’s a celebrity. Although he agreed to take the call, in an official statement Lofven added that their conversation would not have the ability to sway the courts or prosecutors.
“In Sweden, everyone is equal before the law and that the government cannot and will not attempt to influence the legal proceedings.”
Although the current work of the government to get A$AP released immediately has been to no avail, Trump hasn’t given up. He tweeted that he will be speaking to the Prime Minister’s team again within the “next 48 hours.”
