Kim Kardashian is speaking out about her iconic 2021 Met Gala look that ablaze the fashion world.
The beauty maven showed up at the event sporting a black Balenciaga look that covered her entire body completely, even her face. The outfit was the talk of the event and blogs for weeks to come, with many slamming Kardashian for concealing her face while others praised her bold style choice. However, the 41-year-old said her attire nearly didn’t make the star-studded evening.
“I fought against it. I was like, I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?” she recalled in her Vogue spread. Kardashian said it was Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia who convinced her to go through with the excessively conservative ensemble, telling her “this is not a Vanity Fair party where everyone looks beautiful.”
Gvasalia felt that Kardashian could get away with hiding her face because everyone would recognize her by her silhouette while she still matched flawlessly with the theme. The two “speak the same fashion language,” which is why he has crowned her the of Balenciaga’s spring/summer ’22 campaign.
