Kim Kardashian believes she owes an apology to her ex-husband, Kris Humphries, for how she handled their divorce.
On part one of the KUWTK reunion special with Andy Cohen, Kim detailed her short-lived marriage with the former NBA player.
During the interview that aired Thursday, Kim was accompanied by her sisters — Kourtney Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kendall Jenner — and her mother, Kris Jenner.
Kim stated that she felt pushed to go ahead with her 2011 wedding to Humphries since it was shot for “KUWTK,” and she didn’t want to be remembered as “the runaway bride forever,” even though she got cold feet and didn’t want to get married.
If Kim had second thoughts about the then-engaged couple’s relationship, Jenner jumped in, saying she advised her daughter to reconsider marrying Humphries.
According to Kim, her mom told her: “Go. I’m going to put you in a car. No one will find you. Just leave, and I’ll handle it.”
When the couple was on their honeymoon in Italy, Kim knew she’d “made the wrong decision” in marrying Humphries, and she felt “claustrophobic” just gazing at his shoes in their hotel room, she said on Thursday.
“I was so nervous to break up with someone,” Kim told Cohen. “I totally handled it the wrong way. I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I just didn’t know to deal.” But, she added, “I learned so much from it.”
Kim answered “absolutely” when Cohen asked if she thought she owed Humphries an apology for the way she broke up with the NBA star, adding that she tried phoning Humphries “for months” to apologize but never received a response.
Kim filed for divorce two months after they married, and it was finalized in 2013, just before she gave birth to her baby, North, with her then-boyfriend Kanye West.
While it’s unclear how Humphries feels about his short-lived marriage almost a decade later, Kim said that when they ran into each other in 2015, he refused to talk to her.
“I had North in my hand. I had my big huge belly — I was about to give birth to Saint,” Kim said. “All of his friends got up and said ‘Hi’ to me, and he looked at me and wouldn’t even speak to me.”
The aspiring lawyer also debunked media reports that she married Humphries for the sake of fame, explaining that the money she and her ex-husband made filming the wedding for “KUWTK” was used to pay for the ceremony and celebration.
“I wanted a bigger wedding than what [‘KUWTK’ was] going to pay for,” Kim said. “So I used all of our production money on the wedding. If that was fake, I would have saved my money.”
Humphries has also denied allegations that the couple married for the cameras. However, Humphries stated it “bothered” him when people dubbed his marriage to Kim “fake” in a 2019 piece for The Player’s Tribune.
“There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real,” Humphries wrote. “But our actual relationship was 100% real. When it was clear that it wasn’t working … what can I say? It sucked.”
