“Governor Brown, please add Kevin Cooper to your legacy of smart, fair and thoughtful criminal justice reforms,” Kim Kardashian-West tweeted Gov. Jerry Brown with a New York Times article.
Kevin Cooper is a black man whose suspected of being framed in the 80’s for murdering 4 people in Chino Hills, CA. He’s currently on death row at San Quentin.
The author of the New York Times article Kim tweeted, suggests that a white man named Lee was a suspect in the Chino Hills case but was not arrested or prosecuted in connection to the case. Lee’s girlfriend at the time even told police that he might have been involved and produced coveralls that were never tested, according to TMZ.
Governor Jerry Brown apparently has a legacy of criminal justice reform in the state of California and Kim wants him to add Kevin Cooper to his roster. Nicholas Kristof, the New York Times author, says an advanced DNA test could exonerate him but Governor Brown has been extremely slow in ordering one.
