Christian Combs is standing firm as his father, Diddy, awaits sentencing this October after being convicted on two federal counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution. Speaking with Billboard, Christian expressed hope despite the serious legal road ahead.
“I feel good. The whole family. We feel good,” the rapper shared. “We just, you know, humbly, just waiting for the sentencing and waiting for pops to come home. We got good expectations.”
Although acquitted of the more serious racketeering and sex trafficking charges, Diddy is still confined and on house arrest. Federal prosecutors argue he remains a risk to others and could flee due to his vast wealth. Recently, they urged the court to dismiss a proposed $50 million bond package from Diddy’s legal team that would have allowed him limited movement.
Diddy’s defense team insists his detention is unjust. In a court motion, they noted, “There has literally never been a case like this one […] Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.” They claim that his prosecution under the Mann Act conflicts with typical Department of Justice policy, which usually targets those exploiting others for commercial sex, not individual participants in consensual acts.
There’s also buzz about a possible pardon from Donald Trump. But Trump, speaking to Newsmax, sounded unsure: “He was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent. He was celebrating a victory, but I guess it wasn’t as good of a victory.” Trump admitted personal feelings might make a pardon harder, recalling, “He made some terrible statements. So I don’t know…it makes it more difficult to do.”
