Los Angeles district attorney George Gascón just announced that the man accused of attacking Olympian Kim Glass with a metal bolt-type pipe is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
According to FOX News, the suspect is a known felon and has had two previous related assaults. When the attack happened, he was on parole.
Semeon Tesfamariam, 51, randomly attacked Glass, and apparently, it’s become a pattern of his to attack strangers.
Gascón said, “his [attack] was a brutal, unprovoked attack. Mr. Tesfamariam has a troubling history of attacking apparently random people with dangerous weapons. His behavior appears to have escalated with time.”
When the incident happened, Glass took to social media to show her seriously bruised face. The attack left a bloodied nose, a gash on the left side of her nose, and a black eye.
She described the horrific event. “As I was leaving lunch, I was outside saying goodbye to a friend, and this homeless man ran up. He had something in his hand, he was on the side of the car in the street, and he just like looked at me with some pretty hateful eyes, and as I go to tell my friend, I think something is wrong with him before I knew it a big metal bolt like pipe hit me. It happened so fast. He literally flung it from the street.”
Tesfamariam is being accused of throwing a 10-inch mental bolt at Glass’s face. FOX reports that he is being held without bail. His hearing will start on Aug.17 and he faces up to 11 years if convicted.
