Kris Jenner reportedly had nothing to do with negotiating the deal for Kim Kardashian and Ray J’s sex tape.
Sources say that Kris never negotiated with Vivid Entertainment, who released the tape in 2007; instead, Kim and Ray J allegedly dealt with Vivid and their lawyers directly.
Earlier this week, Ray J revealed that Kris and Kim planned to manufacture and sell a sex tape in the wake of Paris Hilton’s massive financial success. Sources close to the Kardashian-Jenner Klan claim she had no involvement in the tape’s development and that she was a hands-off dealmaker who had no interaction with Vivid.
However, Ray J maintains that Kris was operating behind the scenes.
Although the Kardashians have claimed they never signed off on the tape, the reality is that Vivid could not have published it without Kim and Ray’s signatures. If it had, there would be a lawsuit because Vivid can not use anyone’s name or likeness on tape without their consent.
It was previously reported that Kim filed a lawsuit against Vivid before the film was released, but it was dismissed because she and Ray were able to strike a settlement that allowed the video to be released.
In terms of money, Kim and Ray received a $1 million advance and shared 49% of the tape’s proceeds. Because the tape sold for $100 million, that amounts to roughly $49 million, outselling Paris Hilton’s sex tape.
