In January 2015, Kyle Norman of the group Jagged Edge, was arrested for allegedly beating up his fiancée, leaving her with black eyes, a golf-ball sized knot on her forehead, cuts, bruises and a burst blood clot in her eye. It was reported that he also shoved a wedding ring down her throat. Shortly after the assault however, the two got married. Now, a year later, Kyle and his wife sat down with Steve Harvey to finally discuss the incident that transpired.
Kyle recounts what happened that day in 2015. “To be honest with you Steve, all I know is that I just caused harm to her,” he said. “I know I hit her. I know I was on top of her. It was an out-body experience. Like, ‘You gotta stop. Whatever you feeling, whatever pain you’re going through, you gotta stop. This is your everything right here. Why are you doing this?’”
When asked why he didn’t stop, Kyle responded, “I was just too far gone at that point. I was just out of my mind delirious. And just hurt, pain, neglect. And I felt like I wish she just would’ve held me. And she didn’t, so I felt like my world was against me.”
At the time of the assault, cops say they saw Kyle running down the sidewalk and as an officer pulled up, Norman turned around and shouted, “I need to go to jail.” He then told police he was upset about his dad having cancer and that’s the reason he got so mad at his fiancee. He was taken to jail and charged with aggravated assault.
The wedding went on and the two got married. Of course Steve asked why she would do such a thing, to which Kyle’s wife answered, “I also understand too that when you love someone, you believe in God, and you just have to forgive,” she told Harvey. “This was just a situation with Kyle that I just knew it was not him. He’s always been a provider for me, he’s always cared for me. And I think he was just out of his mind. Drinking, and drugs and things like that, you’re not yourself.”
Kyle noted that this was an isolated incident, he had never hit his wife before or since that night. He offered an apology to his fans saying, “I just want my fans to know, I’m Kyle. Kyle made a mistake. But I gotta be able to be a better person. ‘We all sin and fall short of the glory of God.’ I’m human, and whatever I have to do, I’m gonna do. And whatever I have to say, I’m gonna say it to speak out against domestic violence,” he said.
