Kylie Jenner Threw A “Handmaids Tale” Birthday Party For Her BFF And Twitter Ain’t Having It

Kylie Jenner pissed off a few Twitter users after posting photos and video during her oddly themed party based on Hulu’s series ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ for her BFF Stassi Karanikolaou’s Birthday. Seemingly, the only people who felt the party was a great idea were the attendees…because social media went off!

“Kylie Jenner is having a party themed after the Handmaid’s Tale…..so…..who’s gonna tell her that her party is literally celebrating female enslavement for their biological reproduction?? WHO IS GOING TO TELL HER,” one Twitter user posted. Another user tweeted, “Women’s bodies get policed on a daily, some states are trying to ban abortion, yet Kylie Jenner thought a Handmaid’s tale theme party was a good idea.”

For those who may be unaware of the series, ‘A Handmaid’s Tale’ was originally a book by Margaret Atwood that was recently turned into a popular drama series by Hulu. The series portrays a dystopian society in which infertile married couples of high status enslave fertile women and subject them to monthly rapes in order to get them pregnant. With the current attack on female reproductive rights, this topic hit close to home for many.

“‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ is my favorite show ever, so for Stas’s birthday, welcome to Gilead! Get your outfit!” Kylie shouted in a video as she turned into the camera toward a row of red handmaid robes and bonnets, just like what the characters wear in the series. Kylie and her friends, including Sofia Richie, took selfies in the outfits while partaking in drinks like “Praise Be vodka” and “Under His Eye” tequila, also references to the series.
