Authorities in Los Angeles are working to identify three separate drivers who struck a man as he was crossing the street, all of which fled the scene.
The incident took place in Los Angeles’ Florence neighborhood on Sunday. In video footage posted to the LAPD Facebook and Twitter page, 50-year-old Jose Fuentes is seen attempting to cross the street at the intersection of 77th Street and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles. At around 7:40 p.m., he was hit by a motorcyclist who quickly takes off after stopping only briefly. As he lay in the street, a white sedan and a white van then run over his body all within seconds of one another. Neither stopped to assist Fuentes, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Nobody stopped and helped out Mr. Fuentes as he lied there. The guy on the motorcycle … (could have) stopped to block traffic and prevented even the second or third collision from happening. But he elected to get on his motorcycle and took off and left and fled the scene,” lead detective on the case, Ryan Moreno, said in a statement obtained by ABC News.
LAPD is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information regarding the driver’s identities.
