The Los Angeles teachers union wants all eligible students to get vaccinated.
Mandatory vaccinations for all eligible students and stricter rules for quarantine are two things the United Teachers Los Angeles called for in its proposal this month. The group’s mission is “to achieve full vaccination no later than 12 weeks following the birthday in which they become eligible,” but religious exemptions and medical reasons may be considered.
The group submitted the proposal titled Counterproposal #2: at the bargaining table, KTLA reports.
On top of the vaccination and stricter quarantine rules, the union also wants classes with younger students to be quarantined if in the event someone tests positive for COVID-19, whether it be a student or staff member.
For now, there are no details on whether or not the district has agreed to the union’s demands. There are currently 4.44 million COVID-19 cases in Los Angeles.
