LA County Will Require Residents to Wear Masks Indoors Again Due to Increase in COVID-19 Transmission; Vaccine Status Does Not Matter

Los Angeles County continues to see an increase in COVID-19 transmission and will now re-implement a mask mandate.

Starting Saturday at 11:59 p.m., the county will require residents to wear masks while indoors. The mandate will require people to wear masks while inside public establishments, including retails shops, grocery stores, bars, clubs, restaurants, and workplaces.

Before this, the county had only recommended mask-wearing indoors.

According to County Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis, indoor dining will remain open, but customers will have to stay masked while not eating or drinking.

Los Angeles County has seen its seventh consecutive of new COVID-19 cases exceeding the 1,000 mark. The county reached 1,537 new cases, the highest number of new cases reported since early March.

Davis admitted that the county is “not where we need to be” to get the population vaccinated against the virus.

Apparently, the rate of the virus spread in the county from moderate to substantial.

It’s five times more likely for a person to get the virus if they are unvaccinated.

When asked if Los Angeles might consider re-implementing other COVID-19-related restrictions — such as capacity limits and physical distancing, Davis said, “Everything is on the table if things continue to get worse.”

As for now, masking-wearing is the “easiest thing” for residents to do to help curb the spread of the virus.
