The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office has decided to quit Twitter over offensive comments that the social media platform failed to remove after repeated requests.
The handle @LADAOffice is no longer an active account on Twitter. According to the office, a Pride parade post triggered a “barrage of vicious and offensive comments.” The office said in a statement that they were left “deeply troubled.”
“Our decision to archive our Twitter account was not an easy one,” the statement read. “It came after a series of distressing comments over time, culminating in a shocking response to photographs we posted celebrating LADA’s first known entry into a Pride parade.”
The office shared a photograph of employees holding gay pride flags as they marched in the annual West Hollywood Pride parade. The picture included Joseph Iniguez, who is gay and the chief of staff for George Gascón, along with Tiffiny Blacknell, who serves as the communications director.
