Three Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies were killed Friday morning after a powerful explosion rocked the Biscailuz Training Facility in East Los Angeles, where the department’s bomb squad and tactical units train.
The blast happened just after 7:30 a.m. while personnel were believed to be handling explosives. Authorities say the cause is still under investigation, but is currently being treated as accidental.
The LAPD bomb squad, FBI, and ATF joined local investigators at the scene. Sheriff Robert Luna has not yet released details about possible injuries beyond the three fatalities.
