Recently, the hosts of the “ShxtsNGigs” podcast have found themselves deep in backlash for participating in a conversation that consisted of distasteful jokes about Black women. The controversy started after British podcasters James Duncan and Fuhad Dawodu sat down with Andrew Schulz on the “Flagrant” podcast. During the episode, the conversation took a turn when Schulz asked the men if they had dated Black and White women. Duncan and Dawodu confirmed they have experience with both races, with Schulz responding, “What’s your favorite?”

The conversation worsened after Schulz made a racial joke about Black women. Referring to non-black men, Schulz said, “They shave their hair because they start losing it because they’re so stressed being around this Black girl complaining about sh*t all the time.” His statement was met with laughter from Duncan and Dawodu. The moment eventually caught the attention of viewers and ignited criticism from social media users.

Particularly, the “ShxtsNGigs” podcast fansbase, which consists of predominantly Black women, felt as though Duncan and Dawodu lacked support for Black women. They even called out the duo for engaging in the conversation and not challenging the stereotypes that were said. Additionally, actor LaKeith Stanfield also seemingly addressed the British hosts, taking to Instagram to write, “If you talk down on black women f*ck your podcast.”

But as their followers drastically decreased, Duncan and Dawodu used their platform to apologize for their reaction. Duncan admitted that their response was due to a “fight or flight” feeling and acknowledged that they were caught off guard by Schulz’s comments.

“We f*cked it, and we’re sorry,” Duncan said. “There were a few jokes made that were incredibly inappropriate, one specifically pertaining to Black women… We were laughing at it. But when you’re in there, you’re in shock, and all you want to do is move on.”

Nonetheless, Duncan and Dawodu seem to have to perform severe damage control to regain the support of their followers. But despite their efforts, the duo’s apology may not be enough for their fanbase, who felt deeply hurt by their reactions and wanted to continue watching the podcast.
