When the late great Kobe Bryant statue was revealed last month, it was complimented by a celebratory ceremony. However, it’s now come to light that the statue has multiple typos engraved into it.
In a now-viral tweet, German basketball journalist André Voigt shared photos and pointed out the multiple errors.
Former guard Jose Calderon is spelled as ‘Jose Calderson’, while NBA journeyman Von Wafer’s name was also misspelled, reading ‘Vom Waver.’ Additionally, the word “decision” was misspelled as “decicion” in “DNP-CD.”
The Lakers said Monday the organization plans to fix the errors.
“We have been aware of this for a few weeks and are already working to get it corrected soon,” a Lakers spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.

Sculptor Julie Rotblattamrany has also faced backlash since the debut of the statue with fans claiming that the proportion of the statue’s arms is not the same length.
