Former NBA star Lamar Odom will be putting his life story on display for the world to see in an upcoming documentary series— a process he called “therapeutic.”
Odom, 41, is the subject of an untitled docuseries produced by Jojo Ryder. The series will examine Odom’s life from birth until the present day, including the “ups and downs.” Odom has experienced a high-profile basketball career with the Los Angeles Lakers, the loss of his baby Jayden, and his very public relationship with ex-wife Khloe Kardashian. The documentary will take a deep dive into all of these moments.
The former hoopster admits that it wasn’t always easy reliving these moments. He told PEOPLE that filming served as a “very well needed therapy session.”
“I’m actually happy to share [the things I’ve been through] with people to inspire them,” Odom says. “I get the same kind of feeling when people come up to me and say, ‘Lamar, you are an incredible basketball player.’ It’s the same feeling when people come up to me about adversities I’ve gone through, such as drugs. I’ve overcome many battles, and they can relate to it, and it inspires them. So, I feel good about sharing my life and moments I might not have been so proud of at the time.”
“It’s nice to look back at different times in your life and see it sort of in third person,” he told the outlet.
The multi-episode series will air this spring. It will include interviews with Odom and some of his peers like Dwyane Wade and Liza Morales, his children’s mother.
“You already know Lamar’s point of view from the book and from the interviews,” said Ryder. “We’re getting the perspective from the celebrities involved, from the athletes involved, even from people who were at the brothel. We’re talking to his kids…We’re talking to his family.”
