That’s Baller: Lamborghini Steps Up Its SUV Game With Urus Performante

As if Lamborghini hadn’t already outdone themselves with the sold-out Urus SUV, the automotive company is back with an upgraded model.

Currently, in production, The Lamborghini Urus Performante is set to arrive on the market later this year, and car enthusiasts are eager to get their hands on this new Urus variant. What makes the Performante special and likely the favored option is its increase in power, which has gotten a boost from 641 seen in the standard Urus to 657 in the new version. The Performante is also much lighter, weighing about 104 pounds less than its predecessor. Lamborghini was able to achieve the weight drop by adding light springs, a carbon-fiber hood, and reduced sound deadening, amongst other modifications.

The Performante is visibly smaller and sleeker, creating a challenge for its forthcoming competitor, the Ferrari Purosangue, the brand’s first SUV. Luckily for Lamborghini, they have already been in the SUV business for quite some time, giving them more leverage. While unknown to most, Lamborghini sold its first SUV in 1986, known as the LM002 or “Rambo Lambo.” However, production was stopped in 1996, as Lamborghini fans were more interested in their sports cars. Prior to “Rambo Lambo,” the company unveiled two prototype vehicles, the Cheetah and the LM001. Both were poorly received. In 2018, the company began production on the Urus. Since hitting the market, the vehicle has outsold its fellow Lambos and become a staple in the automotive industry.

Last year, Lamborghini sold 8,405 cars. In August, they announced that they were completely sold out of vehicles until 2024, thanks partly to the popular Urus, which accounted for 5,021 of the cars sold in 2021. With the introduction of the Performante, the company is sure to have another stellar sales year.

The 2023 Lamborghini Urus Performance will start at $260,676. An exact date for when it will go on sale has not been announced.
