Police are seeking at least two men believed to be behind a string of armed robberies along Melrose Avenue where Rolex watches were targeted.
Officials said Monday that the robbers target pedestrians who are unsuspectingly shopping and dining along Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax district. They were observed on surveillance footage rushing out of a car and tackling a man north of Melrose in the 700 block of North Vista Street on January 30th at around 4 P.M. One of the robbers was seen holding down the victim while the other brandishes a handgun at him. They ran off with his Rolex watch, wallet, and necklace.
Since this mugging, the Los Angeles Police Department has received an influx of reports about people being robbed at gunpoint along Melrose. In seven of those incidents, Rolex watches were taken. Other high-end jewelry seems to be of interest to the robbers as well, with the thieves following victims from restaurants and stores to ambush them, officials say. Many of the thefts have taken place in broad daylight.
Authorities say that the suspects are Black men in their 20s who have been spotted in several types of vehicles.
