First Round, 13th overall pick, Laremy Tunsil may be one step closer to finding out who was responsible for the social media debacle that cost the former Ole Miss player an estimated eight – 13 million dollars. According to CBS, the Dolphins might have identified Tunsil’s hacker.
Via CBS Sports :
[ According to the Palm Beach Post, the team thinks that a former financial advisor, who worked for Tunsil, was the one who leaked the bong video onto Tunsil’s Twitter page. Although the Post didn’t reveal the name of the financial advisor, it did note that the man was fired by Tunsil sometime before the NFL Draft.
Tunsil’s lawyer, Steve Farese, didn’t confirm that a former financial adviser was the hacker, but he did rule out the suspect who everyone originally pointed to: Tunsil’s stepdad.
“Initially, that would be the low-hanging fruit. It was so counterintuitive, if that were the case, it wouldn’t make any sense,” Farese said in an interview with SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Sports Radio. “Now I’ve drifted away from those thoughts and don’t believe he had anything to do with it.”
After the draft, Tunsil’s stepdad, Lindsey Miller, adamantly denied that he was involved in the hacking.]
Tunsil can pursue legal action in a civil matter seeking the potential earnings lost in the draft. The hacker could face up to five years in prison for the violation of the Stored Communications Act, which prohibits , but is not limited to, the unauthorized use of someone’s social media accounts.
It begs the question, “Was these efforts worth it”? Yes, it may have cost him a few spots in the draft, but history shows that the draft is a lottery of upsets and surprises. A few years ago Manziel was hyped to be an extremely early QB pick in the 2014 draft. In fact he was expected to stay in Texas. However Bortles fractured that QB hope. The talks of Manziel staying in Texas was shattered when the Houston, Texans ( who badly needed a QB) selected a DE as the 1st overall pick and Dallas ceased hope with the selection of a Guard, a total different outcome than the draft predictions.
Tunsil was still drafted and earned a rookie contract with guaranteed money. No it wasn’t as much as he could earn, but Tunsil is still able to earn, so again, “was it worth it?”
