Larry Hoover Jr. is giving Ye major credit for helping push his father’s case into the spotlight.
Following the news that Donald Trump commuted Larry Hoover Sr.’s federal sentence, Hoover Jr. told TMZ that Ye’s early support made all the difference.
“He had a very big part because he started it all off,” he said. “He put us on the platform. He took us to the White House on his platform when he didn’t have to do that.”

Hoover Jr. also highlighted Ye’s consistency over the years. From discussing the case with Trump in 2018 to featuring a message from him on Donda and hosting a benefit concert with Drake in 2021.
“He stuck his neck out there,” Hoover Jr. said. “We know he don’t have a problem with sticking his neck out there about what he believes in, and I’m glad he believed in this.”
He also credited Ye and Kim Kardashian with connecting him to Alice Marie Johnson, calling her the “pardon czar.” He later shared a photo of her holding Trump’s signature, captioned, “Almost home!! Too short to hold a long conversation.”
While Hoover Sr. is no longer serving time on federal charges, he’s still facing a 200-year sentence in Illinois for a 1973 murder.
