Shawn Southwick King, Larry King’s estranged wife, is asking the court to grant her at least $33,100 a month in spousal support both in the future and retroactively, dating back to when King,86, filed to end the marriage in 2019.
After nearly 22 years of marriage, King filed for divorce from Southwick King, his seventh wife, on August 20, 2019, citing irreconcilable differences and listing the date of separation as June 6, 2019.
Southwick King said that when she married King, she agreed to bring her career to a halt so that she could be a stay-at-home mother. Together, the former couple has two sons, Chance, 20, and Cannon, 19. Due to that agreement between her and King, the 60-year-old singer is seeking assistance to make ends meet once the divorce is final.
“Now that the parties are in the process of dissolving their 22-year marriage, [Southwick King] is financially dependent on [King] at this stage of her life, due to the parties’ agreement that she would care for and raise their sons instead of pursuing her acting and singing career,” court documents obtained by PEOPLE read. “[Southwick King] seeks temporary spousal support from [King] to meet and pay her living expenses.”
His ongoing divorce battle with his estranged wife is the last thing someone would want to go through after suffering from what the talk show host has gone through.
This summer, King lost two of his adult children within three weeks. Andy,65, passed away following a heart attack on July 28, while his younger sibling Chaia,51, died of complications from lung cancer on Aug.20. Following their passing, King took to Facebook to remember his children.
“Losing them feel so out of order. No parent should have to bury a child… Both of them were good and kind souls, and they will be greatly missed,” he said.
