The West is getting slammed by a scorching heatwave that caused Las Vegas to reach 117 degrees on Saturday, its highest temperature ever observed.
Unfortunately, the heatwave is expected to last into early this week, possibly cooling down Tuesday or Wednesday, The Washington Post reported.
Officials have placed more than 30 million people under excessive heat warnings and heat advisories, which includes the majority of interior California, a good portion of Nevada, western Arizona, and Utah. Southeast Oregon and southern Idaho.
Sin City was among several areas that either topped or matched all-time highs in the Southwest.
St. George, Utah, reached 117 degrees, tying the state’s all-time recorded temperature.
Oregon and Washington state equaled their all-time highs amid the “unprecedented” heatwave that occurred at the end of June.
Residents of California and Nevada were asked to conserve energy by properly adjusting their thermostats and using fewer appliances.
