An 18-year-old Las Vegas teen who is accused of fatally mowing down a retired police chief has been hit with an attempted murder charge stemming from a separate incident.
Earlier this month, Jesus Ayala was hit with an attempted murder charge by Nevada prosecutors who say he stabbed someone two months before he ran over former police chief Andreas Probst.
Authorities say the alleged stabbing victim told them that the teen and another person approached him while he was on the street and used brass knuckles and knives when they attached him, TMZ reported.
He sustained cuts to his body and head.
Legal documents obtained by the outlet indicate that the state wants to add the attempted murder charge to Ayala’s original case.
In Ayala’s original case, he is accused of driving a stolen vehicle when he ran over Probst, who was riding a bike last summer, killing him. Another teen who was a passenger in the vehicle with Ayala recorded the incident.
Prosecutors argue that the two incidents are related. Still, the teen’s legal team is fighting the amended charges, claiming the prosecution’s original case against their client is thin and is the reason why they’re trying to add on to the case.
