The lawsuit accusing Jay-Z and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000 has been dismissed by the accuser’s attorneys, according to a court filing made on Friday in New York.
The voluntary dismissal, filed by attorneys Tony Buzbee and Antigone Curis, states that the case is dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled.
The lawsuit, originally filed against Diddy in October 2024, was amended in December to include Jay-Z after the accuser claimed both men assaulted her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
Jay-Z immediately denied the allegations, calling them “a blackmail attempt”, and his attorney, Alex Spiro, swiftly moved to have the case dismissed, citing major inconsistencies in the accuser’s statements. In December, the plaintiff admitted in an NBC News interview that “not all the facts are clear” in her memory and that she may have misidentified Jay-Z.
Following the dismissal Friday, Jay-Z issued a statement, calling the lawsuit “frivolous” and condemning the impact it had on his family.
“The frivolous, fictitious, and appalling allegations have been dismissed. This civil suit was without merit and never going anywhere. The fictional tale they created was laughable, if not for the seriousness of the claims. I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones, and I have endured can never be dismissed.”
He also criticized the legal system for allowing false accusations, stating:
“The court must protect victims, OF COURSE, while with the same ethical responsibility, the courts must protect the innocent from being accused without a shred of evidence. May the truth prevail for all victims and those falsely accused equally.”
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, also spoke out, emphasizing that Jay-Z never settled and never paid any money to the accuser:
“The false case against Jay-Z, that never should have been brought, has been dismissed with prejudice. By standing up in the face of heinous and false allegations, Jay has done what few can—he pushed back, he never settled, he never paid one red penny, he triumphed and cleared his name.”
While the lawsuit against Jay-Z has been dismissed, Diddy remains embroiled in legal battles. He is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn on racketeering and sex trafficking charges and has been denied bail three times. His trial is set for May 5, 2025, where he faces the possibility of life in prison.
With Jay-Z officially cleared, his legal team is now seeking sanctions against attorney Tony Buzbee, accusing him of filing baseless lawsuits without properly investigating the claims.
