Rudy Giuliani could be facing the possibility of expulsion from the New York State Bar or suspension of his law license if a group of lawyers gets their way.
According to NBC News, a lawyers’ group has filed an ethics complaint with the New York Courts against the former mayor, calling for him to be investigated and his law license suspended for his tireless promotion of Donald Trump’s baseless allegations over the 2020 election.
Lawyers Defending American Democracy, a prestigious group that includes former judges and federal attorneys amongst its members, sent the complaint to the Attorney Grievance Committee of the state’s court system on Wednesday, saying Giuliani had violated the rules of professional conduct.
“Giuliani has spearheaded a nationwide public campaign to convince the public and the courts of massive voter fraud and a stolen presidential election,” the group’s complaint said.
In their complaint, the group calls for the committee to investigate Giuliani’s conduct, including his comments at a rally before rioters stormed into the U.S. Capitol, and to suspend his law license immediately while any investigation is underway.
A different complaint against Giuliani was filed earlier this month by New York state Sen. Brad Hoylman, a Democrat, who asked that Giuliani be considered for disbarring.
