Back in early 2018, Fox News Host Laura Ingraham received some well-deserved backlash, after stating that athletes shouldn’t have political views and that they should “shut up and dribble,” in response to LeBron James and Kevin Durant’s criticism of Trump.
“It’s always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball,” Ingraham said.
However, Ingraham was singing a different tune this week, when NFL player Drew Brees spoke out on Americans not respecting the American flag.
“And is everything right with our country right now? No, it’s not,” Brees stated in an interview with Yahoo Finance. “We still have a long way to go. But I think what you do by standing there and showing respect to the flag with your hand over your heart, is it shows unity. It shows that we are all in this together, we can all do better, and that we are all part of the solution.”

Brees’ comments were faced with immediate backlash from many people, including entertainers and athletes, and James, who took to Twitter to write, “WOW MAN!! Is it still surprising at this point. Sure isn’t! You literally still don’t understand why Kap was kneeling on one knee?? Has absolute nothing to do with the disrespect of [the US flag] and our soldiers(men and women) who keep our land free. My father-in-law was one of those men who fought as well for this country. I asked him question about it and thank him all the time for his commitement. He never found Kap peaceful protest offensive because he and I both know what’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong! God bless you.”
Ingraham, however, chose to be an anomaly and defended Brees, stating, “this is beyond football.”
“He’s allowed to have his view about what kneeling and the flag means to him. I mean he’s a person,” Ingraham said.
Once James caught wind of Ingraham’s remarks, he took to Twitter to share the clip and compare her remarks regarding Brees to the remarks regarding him back in 2018.
