LeBron James may have turned 40 today, but the Lakers star believes he could rule the court for another seven years.

Speaking with reporters on his milestone birthday, James reflected on his legendary career and his thoughts on retirement, which have grown sharper over time. Despite speculation about his future, James emphasized his ability to still perform at an elite level but said he has no intention of overstaying his welcome in the NBA.

“To be honest, if I really wanted to, I’d probably play this game at a high level probably for about another … it’s weird that I might say this, but probably about another five to seven years, if I wanted to,” James said at practice. “But I’m not going to do that.”

James also dismissed the idea of returning to the court after retiring, unlike Michael Jordan or Tom Brady.

“No no, but I will miss the hell out of it for sure,” the four-time champion said. “But I won’t walk away and come back. No.”

Having achieved every imaginable milestone, from winning titles with three franchises to becoming the league’s all-time leading scorer and sharing the court with his son, Bronny, James has little left to prove.

He also shared that he hopes to finish his career with the Lakers, where he has been since 2018.
