A local baker was asked to create an extravagant cake to be given to Lebron James for his 27th birthday. The ticket: $3000 but the baker, Alethea Hickman, was offered a heap of free publicity from the Miami Heat and Lebron James’ camp in exchange. She took the offer.
Â
Things got complicated when Jared Galbut, the party handler, had to explain to Hickman that Lebron’s people didn’t like her cake and decided to go with one of their own.Â
Â
“I don’t even know where my cake went,” Hickman said. “I was mortified. They had me do it in the middle of the holiday rush and I hired additional people. Someone needs to pay.”
Â
Galbut said James’ people decided Hickman’s work wasn’t fit for the king: “It just wasn’t what was expected. When LeBron’s people saw it, they just didn’t want to use it and decided to bring their own cake. I can’t tell LeBron James what birthday cake to eat. It’s LeBron James, for Christ’s sake.”
Â
As for how much Galbut would pay Hickman if he were asked, he just said: “That cake couldn’t be worth more than $600. It’s flour, eggs and water.
I’m sure that it’s more than just flour an eggs especially if she had to hire extra workers to make this big extravagant cake. I can’t appraise a baked good but I do think someone has to pay for the cake they didn’t use.Â
