Due to the current state of the globe, the coronavirus pandemic has caused shutdowns of bars, restaurants, and theaters. Some states in the US have implemented shutdowns where there are curfews in place while everyone is being urged to practice social distancing.
Legal marijuana businesses have seen a surge in-home delivery sales where one company has expanded its delivery fleet while other sales have tripled.
California, the leading state in the legal
marijuana industry, is seeing an increase in sales due to potential quarantines, shelter-in-place, or because anxieties are at an all-time high. During a time like this, people are in need of relief.
In California, some marijuana shops were forced to close or limit their sales because of coronavirus fears. Marijuana shops are considered essential businesses in key locations where shelter-in-place orders are in effect. This includes San Francisco.
New York, San Francisco, and Palm Springs, California, are also considering dispensaries “essential businesses” that can continue to stay open during lockdown with certain restrictions in some cases.
There were also increases in sales in Colorado and Washington, according to Headset, a cannabis data company.
