In true Hollywood fashion, Legendary Pictures has announced a reboot of the 1974 horror film ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre,’ with Ryan and Any Tohill on board to direct, according to Variety.
Chris Thomas Devlin has been tapped to pen the script, while Fede Alvarez and Rodolfo Sayagues have been tapped to produce as a part of their overall deal with Legendary.
‘The Tohill’s vision is exactly what the fans want,” Alvarez exclaimed in a statement. “It’s violent, exciting and so depraved that it will stay with you forever.”
The original 1974 ‘’Massacre’ written and directed by Tobe Hooper tells the story of two siblings who decide to take a trip along with three of their friends to visit their grandfather’s grave in Texas. However the trip takes a turn for the worst when the group catches the attention to the ‘cannibalistic’ Leatherface and his family and must now fight to save their lives.
Since 1974, ‘Massacre’ has become a ‘cult classic’ and has preceded three sequels.
The film was also rebooted in 2003 by Platinum Dunes, which produced a prequel in 2006.
Lionsgate also made it’s ‘Massacre’ mark releasing ‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ in 2013, followed by ‘Leatherface’ in 2017.
At this time, details regarding the plot of the new reboot, have yet to be revealed.
The Tohill’s previously released their first feature film ‘The Dig’ in 2018 at the Galaway Film Fleadh where they took home an away for best Irish feature.
Ryan Tohill has also worked in the art department on several tv productions in the past including HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ and BBC’s ‘Line of Duty’ and ‘The Fall,’ while Andy Tohill has previously has a career as an editor for U.K. TV shows as well as documentaries, Variety Reports.
