Lehigh University has just revoked the honorary degree it awarded to Donald Trump more than 30 years ago.
According to CNN, Trump received the honorary degree from a private college located in Pennsylvania when he spoke at the university’s commencement ceremony in 1988.
The University made the announcement and explained that its Board of Trustees affirmed the decision on Friday.
Their decision comes two days after hundreds of Trump’s supporters stormed the US Capitol in D.C in a violent riot that resulted in the deaths of at least five people, including a Capitol Hill police officer.
The University’s President John D Simon condemned the riots on Thursday, calling it a “violent assault on the foundations of our democracy.”
This is not the first time attempts to rescind Trump’s honorary degree were made. In 2018, hundreds of faculty members voted to have him stripped of his honorary degree, but the Board of Trustees did not follow through with their request.
