According to Hollywood Reporter, Captain Planet is on his way to the big screen, courtesy of Leonardo DiCaprio and Paramount.
From September 1990 to December 1992, a TV series created by Ted Turner, Robert Larkin III and Barbara Pyle aired on TBS. The series followed five kids from all over the world, who were given the power to control natural elements and solve problems. In the event the kids, also known as the Planeteers, were unable to solve a problem alone, they combine their powers to call on the environmental superhero. Thus forming Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
DiCaprio’s film production company, Appian Way Productions is in the process of getting the rights to the 90s cartoon series. However, it seems like the studio has already chosen the creatives behind the production.  Apparently, Scream Queens star Glen Powell and Jono Matt, are the top contenders to write the screenplay, the publication reports. In addition, the original Captain Planet, David Coburn hopes DiCaprio will summon him to take part in the film.
“There’s nobody better to play Captain Planet than Leo. Well there’s me, then there’s Leo,” Â Coburn laughed. “But if it can’t be me, if Captain Planet can’t be a 51-year-old Jew, the Leo’s a good second choice.”
However, lucky for Coburn, DiCaprio plans to work behind the scenes for this film. Apparently, if all goes well, DiCaprio along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran will produce the film, through the actor’s company. Sources say, the film will take place years after the show. It looks to detail the Captain’s life after the adventures of the Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
