Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is currently under investigation by police, following an incident that occurred last night at Recess Lounge in Philadelphia. McCoy was partying with some friends, including former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley and former University of Pittsburgh football player Tamarcus Porter, when an argument broke out between them and a group of cops over champagne bottles.
According to sources that spoke with 6ABC Action News in Philly, the group of cops, who were also partying at the club, ordered four bottles of champagne. When the bottles arrived, one of McCoy’s friends, Tamarcus Porter, claimed that the bottles were theirs and tried to take a bottle out of one of the cop’s hands. A fight broke out between Porter and the officer, Roland Butler, and McCoy, Brinkley, and a fourth friend joined in on the brawl. Officer Butler was allegedly punched and knocked to the ground, and then while he was on the ground, sources say McCoy and his friends proceeded to kick him and stomp on his head and body. The other cops joined in before security guards came to break up the fight. Everyone involved was then kicked out of the club following the altercation.
Two of the officers involved were hospitalized, one with broken ribs, a broken nose, an eye laceration, and a sprained thumb and the other with a cut to his right eye and a possible skull fracture.
So far, most of the evidence against McCoy and his friends is coming from the officers involved and the security guards. They were all able to positively ID the four men through photographs following the incident. And though there is surveillance video showing the group getting kicked out of the club, the surveillance camera that would have recorded the actual fight was not working last night.
McCoy has yet to release a statement on what happened Sunday night. As for the Buffalo Bills, they announced on Monday that they will be looking into the matter on their own.
