Social Media Etiquette For Thanksgiving

Now that you’ve traveled for the holidays, lost 10 pounds in preparation for the big day, or indulged in any other Thanksgiving preparation habits, you should be all set. However, in the digital age we live in, it’s also important to remember not to overshare too much on social media. Here are a few social media etiquette tips to keep in mind for Thanksgiving.

Rule #1 – Retire posting before and after plates: All of us have been eating the same things every year since birth.

Rule #2 – Don’t post messy plates: If you’re gonna skip No. 1, at least get your food in order! If you post your plate, try to make it look coordinated and less slop-like.

Rule #3 – If you and your cousins decide to “go for a walk” (smoke break), don’t post it on social media! Someone is bound to bust you. ⠀

Rule #4 – Don’t post any wild photos: If you get carried away and have one too many drinks, keep in mind that you are not excused from posting whatever you want just because it’s a holiday. Your employer or pastor may be watching.

Rule #5 – Don’t carelessly post pictures of your family: If your Uncle Will is sitting at the table with his pants unbuttoned and his belly out, or your Aunt Renee has coleslaw stuck in the corner of her lip, don’t put them out there like that on social media.

Even though some of these things may be “normalized,” there are just some things you shouldn’t share. So before you hit “post” on any social media outlet this Thanksgiving, make sure you aren’t committing any of these offenses!
