Lil Durk is facing new federal charges after being named in a superseding indictment related to the 2022 shooting of rapper Quando Rondo‘s cousin near the Beverly Center in Los Angeles. The indictment, announced by the Justice Department, accuses the 32-year-old Chicago rapper, real name Durk Banks, of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot as part of a longstanding feud.
Banks, also known as “Blood” and “Mustafa Abdul Malak,” is charged with conspiracy, using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and discharging firearms in furtherance of a violent crime. The case builds on previous charges and now lists Banks as the lead defendant alongside several associates.
The other defendants include Kavon London Grant, 28 (“Cuz”/”Vonnie”) of Atlanta; Deandre Dontrell Wilson, 33 (“DeDe”) of Chicago; Keith Jones, 33 (“Flacka”) of Gary, Indiana; David Brian Lindsey, 33 (“Browneyez”) of Addison, Illinois; and Asa Houston, 36 (“Boogie”) of Chicago. All are accused of conspiring in the August 2022 incident targeting Quando Rondo’s relative, identified in court documents as “S.R.”
The indictment outlines that Banks, who founded the hip-hop collective Only the Family (OTF), allegedly used his influence to direct violent actions in response to the November 2020 murder of his close friend and OTF member Dayvon Bennett, known as “King Von.” Bennett’s death is believed to have intensified tensions with Quando Rondo’s circle.
According to court documents, Banks allegedly placed a bounty on Rondo’s life and coordinated an effort to track and kill him on August 19, 2022. The plot culminated in a shooting at a Los Angeles gas station, where several OTF members fired multiple rounds, resulting in the death of S.R., Rondo’s family member who was with him at the time.
Prosecutors claim that Banks and OTF associates used organizational resources, including financial backing and flight arrangements, to carry out the attack. Evidence cited includes travel records indicating that Banks and co-conspirator Kavon London Grant traveled to California, with Grant later purchasing ski masks and booking hotel rooms for the group using Banks’ credit card.
Banks was arrested on October 17 near Miami International Airport as he prepared for multiple international flights. He is being held without bond and awaits arraignment in Los Angeles. The other defendants remain in federal custody in Illinois and face charges of conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and firearms offenses, with Jones facing an additional count for possession of a machine gun.
