Federal prosecutors have confirmed they will not pursue the death penalty against rapper Lil Durk in a murder-for-hire case that’s shaken both the rap world and legal circles.
The 32-year-old Chicago native, born Durk Banks, is accused of plotting the 2022 killing of Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson, an associate of Quando Rondo.
Authorities say the alleged hit was revenge for the 2020 murder of King Von, a close friend of Durk. The incident took place in Los Angeles and reportedly involved extensive planning and firearm use. Several others have been arrested alongside the rapper.
While prosecutors are still pushing for a conviction that could land Durk behind bars for life, their decision to forgo capital punishment narrows the stakes. His legal team has fired back, claiming the evidence is flimsy and overly reliant on rap lyrics and texts.
Durk remains jailed in Los Angeles with a detention hearing set for June 3rd. His trial is expected to begin on October 14th, 2025. Weeks ago, it was reported that he may have been connected to the murder of Stephen Mack in 2022. However, the feds have also announced they will not seek charges against Durk in relation to that killing.
