Lil Durk Won't Face Death Penalty in Murder-for-Hire Case Linked to Rap Feud

Lil Durk’s legal team is pushing to have his murder-for-hire case dropped completely due to misinformation about the rapper’s music.

On Friday, attorneys for the Chicago star filed a motion arguing that prosecutors misled a grand jury by linking the alleged plot to a diss track about rival rapper Quando Rondo. Prosecutors claimed Durk mocked the August 2022 Los Angeles shooting in the song, “Wonderful Wayne and Jackie Boy.” However, producer Jusvibes says that the song was recorded seven months before the attack occurred.

“Such an error requires dismissal of the indictment,” Durk’s lawyers wrote.

Prosecutors countered by pointing to a version of the song that includes Quando Rondo’s emotional “No, no!” which was captured by TV news footage after his cousin, Lul Pab, was pulled from their vehicle following the shooting. While prosecutors argue that Durk edited the track after the killing to include Rondo’s desperate pleas, Durk’s lawyers argue the version cited in court was inauthentic and pulled from YouTube, not directly connected to the accused.

“The issue over the timing of Mr. Banks’ recording of the lyrical verse in question is not one of frivolous or inconsequential value,” his attorneys stated, calling the alleged “misrepresentation” crucial to the case.

If the motion to dismiss is denied, Durk’s legal team is requesting that Judge Patricia Donahue release grand jury records.

Durk, arrested in October 2024, is facing conspiracy and firearm charges in connection with the attack that killed Lul Pab. Authorities allege the plot was retaliation for the 2020 murder of King Von, a close associate and artist of Durk. Prosecutors believe Durk coordinated logistics and offered payment for the hit.
