More has been revealed about what led up to Lil Nas X’s Los Angeles street meltdown, which ended in arrest.
According to TMZ, new surveillance video shows the 26-year-old artist roaming near the Short Stories Hotel hours before his near-naked street walking moment.
In the newly unveiled footage, Nas X appears shirtless and dazed around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 20th. Wearing only cowboy boots and a hat, he is later seen removing his shirt in the hotel lobby, setting the tone for the unusual behavior that follows.
By 4:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21st, Lil Nas X was seen walking down Ventura Boulevard in just underwear and boots. LAPD was called after witnesses reported a man in distress.
A police spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, the suspect charged at officers and was taken into custody.”
Nas X was briefly hospitalized for a suspected overdose before being charged with a misdemeanor for battery against an officer.
While it’s unclear what drugs he was suspected of taking, in a 2020 interview, the rapper admitted to using weed heavily as a way to cope with grief following the loss of his grandmother.
“She was the first person close to me who died,” he said. “It was devastating.”
As of Saturday, Nas X remains behind bars pending his court appearance next week. His team has not yet spoken out about the matter.
