GQ revealed its “Men of the Year” issue on Monday, with Lil Nas X as one of the three stars chosen for the cover.
In his accompanying interview, the rapper touches on the controversy over DaBaby’s homophobic statements made during his performance at Rolling Loud Miami. DaBaby made some negative remarks about HIV, gay men, and women.
“I’m not going to lie, I feel bad for DaBaby,” told Jeremy O. Harris. “I hope he grows from it. I hope he’s able to. But I don’t know. The whole landscape is very hyper-masculine.”
He added. “It’s so great and so amazing that all these female rappers are breaking through. And, in a way, female rappers are the biggest rappers right now.”
Elsewhere in the interview, he touched on his Montero album not reaching No. 1. Drake’s Certified Lover Boy beat Lil Nas X out for the top spot.
“I thought about was how blessed I am,” he said. “About where I was three years ago. Nobody even thought that I would be here.”
He did reveal that he reached out to Drake, who he calls his idol, to feature “Dolla Sign Slime.” It didn’t pan out, and instead, the song features the Houston Hottie herself, Megan Thee Stallion.
