Lil Wayne took a moment during his Lil Weezyana Fest to address the Super Bowl snub, making his feelings known once again.
Ahead of his track “Mr. Carter,” Wayne shared that years ago, he purchased tickets to a past Super Bowl held in New Orleans. The Cash Money rapper bought his mother a box suite, allowing her to bring loved ones to the city. This experience motivated Wayne to perfect his craft so that he could one day grace the stage at the Super Bowl halftime show.
“That moment, I said to myself, ‘I want to be on stage for the Super Bowl one day in front of my mom.’ And I worked my a** off to get that f**king position, and it was ripped away from me,” Wayne told the cheering crowd.
Previously, Wayne shared a heartfelt Instagram video following the announcement that Kendrick Lamar would be performing at next year’s Big Game, which will be held in Wayne’s hometown. In the clip, Weezy admitted the snub “broke” him. This garnered a wave of support for the rapper, while others strongly believe Lamar was the right choice, given his megahit “Not Like Us.”
Nevertheless, Weezy made it clear that he was beyond grateful for those who attended this year’s Lil Weezyana Fest, which featured a long-awaited Hot Boys reunion.
“But this motherf**king moment right here. They can’t take that, man. They can’t take that from me,” he stated.
