Lil Wayne is setting the record straight regarding his relationship with Kendrick Lamar following the announcement of the LIX Super Bowl Halftime Show headliner.
During his recent appearance on The Skip Bayless Show, Weezy F. Baby shared his thoughts on the event’s decision to select Kendrick for the performance in Wayne’s hometown. The “Lollipop” rapper addressed what many fans called a “snub” and clarified that there were no hard feelings between the two rappers.
“I will give you two answers — a general answer and a personal answer,” Wayne said. “Generally, I just believe that they — for whatever reason — I believe that it’s over my head, meaning I don’t know why.”
He continued, “Personally, the person I am — I mean, I straight look at it, like, you ain’t there, you gotta get there.”
Bayless then speculated on politics playing a part in the NFL’s decision, which Wayne agreed but is unbothered by the choice.
“That’s another part of it. I think there’s things that I can’t control involved in it, so it is what it is,” he added.
Additionally, Bayless mentioned Kendrick’s track “Wacced Out Murals,” where he named Wayne in his lyrics. After hearing the lyrics, the New Orleans native stated that he believes that Kendrick is a “fan” but also says that he is a fan of the “Not Like Us” rapper.
“I think he’s a fan — like I’m a fan of his music,” Wayne said. “I think he just means he saw how much it meant to me. I think that’s all he means … He didn’t let me down.”
Nonetheless, Wayne makes it clear that there’s no bad blood between him and Kendrick even though many may think otherwise.
“I told him he better kill it,” he added.
