A personal chef is going after Lil Wayne for allegedly unfairly firing her due to a family emergency involving her child.
Chef Morghan Medlock claims that she’d been hired by the “How to Love” rapper in October 2020 to prepare his daily meals, and up until this year, things had been going well. However, Medlock says that while accompanying the Grammy-award-winner on a trip to Las Vegas, things with her former employer took a disappointing turn. During the busy Memorial Day weekend, Medlock was notified that her 10-year-old son had suffered a concussion that required immediate medical attention.
After receiving the news, Medlock tried to get back to Los Angeles as quickly as possible. When her flight with Wayne was delayed, partially due to him smoking on the aircraft, she decided to catch a separate flight home to check on her child after notifying his assistant of the situation. According to her lawsuit, Medlock was repeatedly asked by his team if she was quitting, to which she assured them she was not. Upon getting home to her son and ensuring he was being cared for, she immediately tried to return to her role but was told by the superstar’s team that “this isn’t going to work.”
In her court filing, Medlock points out that California law prohibits the termination of a worker who misses work to look after a sick child. She is seeking at least $500,000 in damages for wrongful termination, retaliation, and several other violations.
Lil Wayne has not responded publicly to these claims.
