Lil Wayne pled guilty today to illegally possessing a firearm as a formerly convicted felon. The plea comes one year after the superstar rapper was caught flying to Miami in a chartered plane with a bag packed with a gold-plated handgun and various drugs.
According to the Miami Herald, Wayne, who already has a felony gun-possession record from a New York case, was only charged with the new firearm offense in this incident despite being caught with marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs during his holiday trip from Los Angeles to Miami, court records show.
The 38-year-old rapper announced his plea to U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams during a virtual hearing in Miami federal court, telling the judge, “Your honor, I plead guilty.”
Wayne will face up to 10 years in prison at a sentencing hearing before Judge Williams on January 28th.
