Rapper Lil Yachty is entering the beauty industry by launching his new nail polish line, Crete.
The company, which will release its first line of colors on May 21st, responds to the unjust school suspension of 17-year-old Trevor Wilkinson. The teen was suspended from his high school for having colorful nails. Trevor has since been working to change the school’s dress code, while Yachty offers his full support for the young man.
“Trevor should be allowed to express himself, especially because his nail polish was harmless,” Yachty said.
The “Minnesota” rap star spoke openly about how he hopes to normalize men wearing nail polish without judgment.
“It’s unisex. But I want it to be more focused on for men to use it and to be more comfortable in their own skin. Because bro, it’s 2020, you know what I’m saying like it’s about to be 2021—come on, what are barriers? We still have barriers?”
Lil Boat offered a first look at Crete on his Instagram with the caption, “FIRST COLOR DROP MAY 21ST. 4 ALL GENDERS. FOR YOU, NOT THEM!” In the photos, the Quality Control rapper sports black, white and silver polish on his nails, though it is unclear what other colors will be a part of the first drop.
