Lil Zay Osama is behind bars after mistakenly leaving a machine gun behind in his rideshare vehicle.
The 25-year-old up-and-coming rapper and his crew took an Uber from a Manhattan hotel to a recording studio in Queens, according to prosecutors. The driver noticed Osama, real name Isaiah Dukes, holding the gun throughout the trip.
The rideshare driver noticed the weapon was still in the car after the ride ended and immediately reported it to law enforcement.
The driver met up with authorities at an established drop-off point. Investigators then examined, and field tested the Glock .40 pistol with the Joint Firearms Task Force of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. They concluded that the gun qualified as a machine gun because it could “automatically fire more than one round with a single function of the trigger.”
Osama has previously spent time in jail on a weapons possession charge. He was arrested on Friday and charged with possession of a machine gun and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
At the time of his arrest, Osama had two outstanding arrest warrants. He is now being held without bail.
