Fans were left outraged after Lionel Richie and Earth, Wind & Fire canceled their sold-out Madison Square Garden show over inclement weather Saturday night.
The legend was forced to cancel after he was unable to fly into New York City due to bad weather. But what really angered people was that the show was canceled an hour after it was set to begin.
“Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight,” he wrote on X, “I’m so bummed.”
Due to severe weather and being unable to land in the NY and surrounding areas, I’m unable to make it to the show tonight. I’m so bummed. We are rescheduling the show to Monday Aug 14. Can’t wait to perform for you all. Tickets for tonight’s show are valid for the show on Monday.

He added, “We are rescheduling the show to Monday Aug 14. Can’t wait to perform for you all. Tickets for tonight’s show are valid for the show on Monday.”
Video taken from inside the venue showed the 20,000 in attendance booing when they were told the show was officially canceled.
The rescheduled show date wasn’t much consolation to fans who had already made the trek to MSG. Some people dropped hundreds not only on tickets but on transportation and hotels, too.
On top of that, only some people who had bought tickets could make it back on Monday for the rescheduled show. A nurse that spoke with The New York Post said she definitely won’t make it to Monday’s show.
“We went out of the way to get the weekend off, and now I can’t go on Monday,” she said. “Does he think it’s easy for me to take off Monday night? This is New York. We work.”
She said she came in from Long Island with her husband and co-worker. She told the outlet that Richie should have taken alternative transportation if he couldn’t fly.
Richie was in Boston, where he performed a show with Earth, Wind & Fire on Friday night-easily driving distance to the Big Apple.
