In this day an age, if you are lucky enough to still have your granny and/or granddaddy around consider yourself blessed. There is nothing like the love, lessons, and traditions gained from the wisdom shared by our elders. Over the years, things have changed a bit, and some grandparents are incredibly young and not the kind who baked cookies and knitted sweaters. Even still, don’t take them for granted and keep some of these things in mind:Â
Be A Sponge- it may feel like there’s a generational disconnect at times, but you can learn a lot from the more seasoned people around you. Don’t be so quick to dismiss their ideas.
Have Patience- you may have to speak up a little louder, speak slower or explain what you’re talking about a few times and that’s ok. They may need your assistance to walk, or maybe they don’t need you to do anything for them at all. They may be older, but are still people and need to be treated accordingly.Â
Write Everything Down- not for them, but for you. It may feel like you have heard the stories a thousand times, but trust me, once they pass you will struggle to remember them all. Get the recipe to your favorite dish, write down the names of the people in the photo albums and learn their history. It’s a part of who you are as well.Â
What are some of the greatest lessons you learned from your grandparents or older people in your lives?Â
