Terri Minsky, the creator of Lizzie McGuire, has exited the Disney+ reboot after filming only two episodes.
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to Lizzie McGuire and high expectations for a new series,” a Disney spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the series.”
In the reboot, Hilary Duff will continue to play the role of Lizzie McGuire. The character will be an almost 30-year-old woman living in New York City working her dream job as the apprentice to a top designer and dating the perfect guy but can’t get her younger self outside of her head.
Cast members Hallie Todd, Robert Carradine, Jake Thomas, and Adam Lamberg will reprise their roles as Lizzie’s mom, her father, brother, and best friend.
Production will not resume until a new showrunner is hired.
